Road - by Jim Cartwright
Come down and visit "the Road." A place where jobs are few and hardships many. The citizens have little hope, little future, little money. Prostitution, petty crime, and the dole are all they have to get them to their next pint. Their politics is equal parts anger and resignation. This British social commentary takes a blistering and sober look at the dregs of society. Come down and visit "the Road."
Road won the Samuel Beckett Award, Drama Magazine’s Best New Play Award, and was joint winner of the Plays And Players Award and The George Devine Award. In 1988, Road was produced by The Lincoln Centre, New York, and is now considered a modern classic.
“The most significant and original new English play to appear in London for a long time…” The Observer
